Grandma Bonnie had worked at St. Helena for 35-ish years, and before that, Grampa Ver had worked there. Gma Susan and Great-grandparents Barbara and Don had all worked there...and even Jenna was a candy-striper there.
Jenna remembers being there for their centennial celebration, playing in offices, napping in meeting rooms, assembling packets and alphabetizing filing after school as a wee girl. She remembers eating in the Cafeteria and needed to be lifted to see the choices in the buffet.
Both her broken bones were set at St. Helena, and Bonnie, Bill, Esther, and Elden were all patients there.
Since it is a SDA Hospital, vegetarian fare is the norm! An added plus! And you can't beat the stunning views overlooking the valley.
For all these reasons, plus being close to Grandma Bonnie's house...it was decided to be the perfect spot to welcome Jaxon into the world.
But as Jenna and Micah took the "Birthing Classes" provided at the hospital, it was a pleasant surprise that their philosophy was exactly what she would have chosen! The hospital aims to be a balance of home and hospital birth. They are very flexible to any (safe) request. The mother stays in one room the whole time and baby stays with her. The Family Birth Center is quite small and personal feeling...and while they aren't fancy with the latest and greatest frills and technology....it was clear this would be a very comfortable place to be.
Now it was just a matter of when.....
